Nov. 19th, 2012 11:48 pmMarcus Flynn was a man who paid his debts. In the case of Quinn Schumacher, that debt was huge, where the monetary aspect was the minor part.
First, he calculated what she should have been paid for the jobs she had secretly done in place of her handler. That was easy enough. Then there were the fours years she had been institutionalized. He researched what that had cost, and added that to the debt. Then things got a bit trickier, because he had to try to assess how much she should have been making during those four years. She had been talented, had been strong, and he felt that she would have been earing quite a lot eventually. So, another sum added.
What couldn't just be weighed and priced, was the emotional suffering she had endured during those four years. It couldn't be made right. Feeling like he was trying to buy her off, and not liking that feeling at all, he took that sum he had and simply doubled it. It was a large sum. A lot of zeros. And still he was prepared to add to it, should she demand it.
Her second demand had been a job. Here he couldn't afford to be as generous. He would strive to land her what position she may want, but within limits. He had to be sure that she could handle what job she asked for, the stakes were too high and too many other people involved for him not to make sure.
He still didn't know what she wanted to be doing, but today would be the day when he found out. They had an appointment in mere minutes. On his desk sat her file, thick with what had happened with her. And, recently added, her evaluation.
